Protein: ORF148

Overview

Mode of Action (MoA) None
Evidence orf148 expression conferred increased phage infectivity in diverse E. coli strains (ECO_0000017), independent of variable defense gene repertoires. Like orf126, transposon inactivation of capsule or O-antigen biosynthesis genes mirrored orf148’s effect, suggesting disruption of conserved envelope barriers. These infection phenotypes across multiple hosts and phages indicate orf148 acts as a general anti-barrier defense protein.
